Distinguishing antimicrobial from antibacterial
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ANTIMICROBIAL AND ANTIBACTERIAL?
One of the most common questions we often get asked here at COCO Lighting in regard to our new Bio-Luminaire range is @What is the difference between ‘Antibacterial’ and ‘Antimicrobial’? Below we have given a brief explanation of the differences between the two types along with the benefits they offer.
• What do they mean?
• What are the differences?
• What levels of protection they provide?
WHAT IS ANTIBACTERIAL
Antibacterial is more commonly known than antimicrobial, possibly due to us seeing it on so many soap dispensers that we all use in our everyday life. Products and solutions that contain antibacterial properties are effective in killing bacteria including E.coli and MRSA.
WHAT IS ANTIMICROBIAL
Antimicrobial is used to describe substances that demonstrate effectiveness against different kinds of microbes, not just bacteria. This means that the antimicrobial technology contained in our Bio-Luminaire range has additional benefits to an antibacterial because it offers the same levels of protection, but with the added performance against other types of microbes such as mould and even some viruses. THE BENEFITS OF ANTIMICROBIAL
Whether you are installing our Bio-Luminaire on walls or ceilings, it will naturally help you benefit towards reducing the levels of surface bacteria upon the luminaire 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
By inhibiting the growth of various microbes, this provides confidence that you are working towards a cleaner and more hygienic environment than if you were to only rely on a non-antibacterial luminaire solution.
Here at COCO Lighting, we use BioCote silver-ion technology which helps us in providing a more hygienic lighting solution. Our products have been proven to reduce up to 99% of microbes when tested. The BioCote® technology in our Bio-Luminaire range has been shown to reduce microbes by up to 80% in 15 minutes, and over 99% within just two hours. Certification here
